Bingo is the women's leading leisure activity - two and a half million regular female players
Now played by all ages, around 30% are under the age of 35
96% of bingo players have won at some time (how about you?)
Research shows women are much happier playing bingo, and 15% say they go for socializing and companionship
The most common reason for playing bingo is enjoyment! Winning money comes 5th!
It is believed our current day Bingo originated from an Italian Lottery Game called Lo Gluoco Del Lotto Ditalia in Italy in 1530.
In 1929 a game called Beano was played at a carnival near Atlanta, GA. A toy salesman, Edwin Lowe, took the game to New York with his friends. Legend has it that one of the players yelled "Bingo!" instead of "beano" when she made her first row, thus the name Bingo.
The originator of the game, "Lowe's Bingo" sought the services of a math professor at Columbia University. Carl Leffler expanded the number combination and devised 6,000 bingo cards with non-repeating number groups. After completing the task he is thought to have gone insane.
